David Carson Carson is an American Graphic Designer, who is well known for his experimental use of typography. He was also the art director for the magazine 'Ray Gun'. This was the beginning of his unique layouts and 'grunge typography'. Here is an example of one of Carson's ideas of 'grunge' typography. As you can see he enjoys to add more extravagant fonts to his magazines in order for it to become independent and stand out from the crowd. People often say that his work is imitated but never matched, as he continues to be one of the most distinctive typographic voices. Here is another example of Carson's work and at first the focus is on the title and picture as they are the most eye-catching at first glance.
