Title of Magazine

I have decided to call my alternative magazine Headstock.

I decided to call my alternative magazine 'Headstock' as a headstock is what the head of a guitar is called, and guitars are most commonly used within alternative rock. The word headstock also reminded myself and others of a song becoming stuck inside of your head.


Other magazine name ideas I had were: Pickups (another part of a guitar); CATCH (linking with a song being 'catchy') and finally SOM or State Of Mind (as I believe alternative music puts you into certain states of mind).
The reason I decided not to use the name of Pickups as my title was because I believed that it wasn't quite fitting to my music choice, as it could also go with country music etc.
I decided to go against using the title of CATCH because again, I felt that it was too broad.
Finally I decided against using the title SOM/State Of Mind because although I really like the meaning behind this I just felt that it was too long and would take up quite a bit of space at the header of my magazine cover. Meaning this would risk the chances of my title not standing out amongst the rest of my magazine.

Audience feedback from student Stephanie Colderick aged 17 Draft-Double Page Spread I really like the images used within the double page spread and feel the styling of the two models works really well to make them look like an effective and genuine duo. The main image on the right hand side of the page is effective and I like how this takes up the whole page, however I feel that the guitar especially the colour of the guitar is very different to the theme of the double page spread.   The use of the light blue colour is effective in adding to the sleek black and white colour scheme and I feel to improve slightly you could possibly use this colour more especially throughout the rest of the page.  Your clear margins and guidelines really give the page a professional look and feel which is enhanced by the good quality photos. Christophe Brunnquell Brunnquell is a French Art Director and Artist. He began working as an art director for Encore Magazine and soon afterwards he was hired Olivier Zahm and Elein Fleiss for Purple Magazine. Although the popularity of Purple Magzine helped him a great deal, he was then soon involved working with others such as  Louis Vuitton. Working alongside Purple Magazine allowed Brunnquell to experiment things as the company gave him a lot of freedom, this resulted in the changing of the magazines format, paper and layout. David Carson Carson is an American Graphic Designer, who is well known for his experimental use of typography. He was also the art director for the magazine 'Ray Gun'. This was the beginning of his unique layouts and 'grunge typography'. Here is an example of one of Carson's ideas of 'grunge' typography. As you can see he enjoys to add more extravagant fonts to his magazines in order for it to become independent and stand out from the crowd. People often say that his work is imitated but never matched, as he continues to be one of the most distinctive typographic voices. Here is another example of Carson's work and at first the focus is on the title and picture as they are the most eye-catching at first glance.
