Magazine Creators

Christophe Brunnquell

Brunnquell is a French Art Director and Artist. He began working as an art director for Encore Magazine and soon afterwards he was hired Olivier Zahm and Elein Fleiss for Purple Magazine. Although the popularity of Purple Magzine helped him a great deal, he was then soon involved working with others such as  Louis Vuitton.
Working alongside Purple Magazine allowed Brunnquell to experiment things as the company gave him a lot of freedom, this resulted in the changing of the magazines format, paper and layout.

Gento Matsumoto
What catches many people's attention in Matsumoto's creations is his background in magazine design. He launched RITS a new computer-aided fashion magazine in 1991, which was a successful and here he was able to display his outstanding design skills. Matsumoto used mechanicals for the opening pages of his magazine and the layouts for RITS were not sent to the printer as data but printed out first on film. This was done using a laser writer although this meant that the text often hd to be enlarged-often causing it to become slightly blurry. Matsumoto often said that he liked to have an image in mind before creating his work-so he was able to picture what his creation would look like. He uses sketchbooks to put down his ideas, takes photographs and 'thinks with his hands'.
Above are images of Matsumoto's work:

Jop Van Bennekom

In 2005, FANTASTIC MAN was launched and Jop Van Bennekom being the 'mastermind' of this magazine was able to take credit for its editorial content and fascinating visuals like no other. Bennekom wanted to make a reality magazine in which he redefines communication, documenting reality through his personal visions. Another magazine he was involved in was BUTT which in fact brought a 'whole new visual aspect to gay magazines' this was done by the use of pink paper, and close typography. Many people say this magazine has a completely different style to other gay magazines- making it unique and enabling it to 'connect people', creating a 'home' for them.
Below is an example of one of his magazines:
